Parent roles & permissions

Owner vs. parent — what each role can do.

Last updated 2026-02-25

Park Bench has two parent roles: owner and parent. Both have full access to the family calendar — the differences are in account management.

What both roles can do

  • View and edit the family calendar
  • Add, edit, and delete events
  • Use the chat assistant
  • See and interact with Discover recommendations
  • Manage memory preferences
  • Join and participate in circles
  • Connect their own Google Calendar

Owner-only permissions

The owner is the person who originally created the family. Only the owner can:

  • Rename the family — Change the family name in Settings
  • Invite other parents — Generate invite codes for co-parents
  • Remove parents — Remove a co-parent from the family
  • Revoke pending invites — Cancel invite codes that haven't been used
  • Delete the family — Permanently remove the family account

Who is the owner?

The person who signed up first and went through the full onboarding (naming the family, adding children, selecting schools) is automatically the owner.

Can ownership be transferred?

Not currently. If you need to change the owner, contact us at hello@parkbench.nyc.
